Also has race mode which forces tcc early than factory for a more aggressive feel. ****Co-Pilots for the 6-Speed Allison transmissions require the ATS Deep Transmission Pan**** The Co Pilot for the 06-10 Allison 1000 makes it possible to transfer increased power levels over stock developed by a modified engine to the rear wheels without causing the dreaded transmission slip and "Fail Safe" condition that plagues the Allison transmission. The Co-PilotTM package alone, without any internal transmission modifications, allows the transmission to handle approximately 85 more horsepower and 120 foot pounds of torque over the power level at which the stock Allison will typically enter into "Fail Safe" mode, roughly 425HP/650Tq. The Co-PilotTM kit allows the transmissions clutch packs to receive full line pressure (clamping force needed to apply clutches) during high power situations. The stock Allison LCT-1000/2000 and 2400 transmissions torque capacity has been reduced by the limited pressure that is available in the clutch packs. The stock Allison transmission only receives approximately 86-PSI oil pressure to the clutch packs when in 5th gear. After the addition of the Co-PilotTM transmission system the transmission clutch packs receive approximately 230-PSI, more than 2.5 times the stock pressure. While the Co-Pilot will still function perfectly on a stock transmission, factory transmission shafts are weak and prone to breakage. The factory torque converter clutch will also fail if applied under high load conditions. Factory computers are programmed to disengage lockup under certain conditions which will protect the transmissions internal components under higher load. This is when we recommend having a heavy-duty aftermarket transmission installed on your vehicle to prevent transmission failure. If you have a stock transmission it is recommended that you leave your Co-Pilot in a less aggressive setting when under high load conditions. The Co-Pilot works right along side the factory PCM/TCM to completely eliminate torque management while optimizing transmission pressures. We do this by monitoring vehicle load, which allows the Co-Pilot to instantly modify calibrations sent from the factory PCM/TCM to give you the drivability and performance gains you require...in ANY situation. ATS has 25 years of TRUE transmission electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems experience. This knowledge allows ATS to combine these technologies into a cohesive set of products culminating with the ATS Co-Pilot. Engine torque is reduced by the truck's Emissions Control Systems. This reduction in torque (Torque Management) in turn limits transmission pressures and typically keeps the converter unlocked so as to avoid damage to those components. The Co-Pilot completely eliminates torque management by changing the PCM/TCM mappings to reduce slip. The benefit is that the ECM never has the need to "turn on" Engine Torque Reduction (management) because there's never a slip condition. In short, with the Co-Pilot, you get the benefit of remapping line pressure rise matched to the torque of the engine rather than matching the factory slope for emissions purposes. The Co-Pilot commands maximum line pressures when needed, and the 68RFE factory transmission is limited to 150psi mechanically. If you utilize the ATS valve body (or complete transmission), we've engineered them for 300psi max pressure. Doing all of this in a completely non-synchronous transmission, while maintaining shift quality, without having clutches bind or slip, and not set trouble codes is the true feat of engineering behind the Co-Pilot.
