<h2>The Different Types of Engine Filters</h2>
<p>There are both reusable and single use filters; one designed to be just burn off the debris that accumulates by means of a catalyst or fuel burner which heats it to the temperature necessary to combust, and the other to be disposed once full of buildup and accumulated diesel particles. The type designed for extended use should be cleaned as a part of normal/routine maintenance, and should be done delicately to prevent filter damage. These differ from catalytic converters by nature of their ability to retain bigger exhaust particles by pushing the fast through the filters. Diesel Engine Filters can be constructed of many varying types of filtering materials, but the most common amongst them is cordierite: a ceramic material that is used to support the catalytic converter as well. Providing excellent filtration, this type of filter is relatively inexpensive, easy to install, and inexpensive. There is, however, a major drawback to the cordierite filter, it has a relatively low melting point of 2200 degrees F, and its base layers often melt during filter regeneration. This isn't usually an issue unless the filter has become loaded more heavily than usual. The second most common filter is made of silicon carbide, which is also known as SiC. This material has a melting point much higher than that of cordierite, around 4900 degrees F. However, it is not thermally stable, which makes packaging an issue. The two types of cores are usually able to be used interchangeably, but SiC cores are typically more expensive than their cordierite counterparts.</p>
